Removing a dangling preposition is no miracle. It may make for clumsy sentence structure, but as Winston Churchill said about ending a sentence with a preposition, “This is the sort of nonsense up with which I will not put.” Please forgive the grammar-nerd humor. Don’t miss my new series entitled Vulcans and Klingons: Identifying The True Heroes.
No, our VBS is not concerned with eloquent language. In fact, Paul used plain speech to proclaim the gospel, “(I) did not come proclaiming to you the testimony of God with lofty speech or wisdom.”-I Corinthians 2:1, “but by the open statement of the truth we would commend ourselves to everyone’s conscience in the sight of God.”-II Corinthians 4:2.
Our teaching program centers around one profound question with an equally important conclusion.
The Question: Are the miracles recorded in the Bible real? Did an actual, human Jesus live, eat, sleep and teach among plain ol’ people and then heal, feed, resurrect the dead, and calm the seas? God the Father wants you to believe Jesus the Son is filled with of miraculous power from the beginning of time until the end. If you deny the miracles of Jesus, he is not the Christ. He is not the Son of God.
We are not asking if you can read a page in a book and quote a sentence. It is one thing to confess, “Yes, I believe the Bible says those things.” The question raised by the miracles of Jesus, is, “Do I believe Jesus did those things?” Did he really feed 5,000 people with five loaves and two fish? What about: walking on water, healing the crippled, leprous, blind, and mute, raising the dead, or even rising from the grave? Your answer has eternal ramifications.
The Consequences: If you answer the theme of our VBS with a maybe or an “I don’t think so.” You are in a dire straight. Without faith in the wonders worked by Jesus, you have no hope of heaven (John 10:25-38). Faith is the essential to standing before God forgiven and justified by the blood of Jesus, the Savior and lover of my soul. “And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.”-Hebrews 11:6.
The entire purpose of our four-day teaching series is for you to leave here Saturday declaring, “Yes! I believe Jesus performed those miracles.”
- I believe in God who sacrificed his Son.
- I believe in Jesus who died for me.
- I believe in the Spirit who will raise me from the grave.
If you answer the question with a resounding, “Yes, I believe in God the Father, Son, and Spirit.” “Yes! I believe Jesus did those wonderous things and will do many more on the last day.” The gates of heaven are open to you. Repent and be baptized to enter the everlasting home of the faithful. WOW!!
