Have you ever had one of those weeks where nothing goes right. It is not that anything overwhelming happened, but every other step I took seemed to be in a mud puddle. It reminded me of one of the most famous episodes of The Simpsons, and it involves Sideshow Bob. What? You’ve never heard of Krusty the Klown’s sidekick who only communicates with a whistle even though he went to Yale and is played by Kelsey Grammar of Cheers and Fraiser fame?
The whole story is a little lengthy for ye olde Encourager. But let’s just say Sideshow Bob framed Krusty for murder but Bart Simpson found out, Sideshow went to prison and now he is trying to kill Bart.
By the way, when I told Wendy the title of the article I was writing she didn’t think it would be a good idea. Like so, so, so many times before I probably should have listened to her. But here we are.
The point I have been circling for three paragraphs now, is there is this scene where Bart has foiled Bob’s evil plans once again and Sideshow finds himself surrounded by steel rakes. You know, as one does. Bob then proceeds to take several steps in every direction, only to have rake after rake hit him in the face followed by the sound of defeat, pain, and resignation.
That is the way my online life has gone this week. Mistakes, corrections, omissions, and at the very least a set of poorly chosen words took up a big part of my week. I uploaded a video to YouTube where I forgot to cut off the last ten seconds or so of me making a frustrated face as I turned off the video. It hailed on me while I was cleaning my fertilizer spreader, the hose sprayer broke and soaked me from head to toe. I never seemed to have my phone. Plus, I am trying to lose some weight and I’m perpetually hungry.
Believe it or not, I am not whining. I would imagine most of you have had the same kind of week from time to time. In fact, I’ve had a pretty good week. Every day I maintain my faith in God through my Lord Jesus Christ is one day closer to heaven (Romans 13:11). I have learned to count my blessings and be grateful. Paul’s words from I Timothy 6:6-8 are written on my heart, “godliness with contentment is great gain, for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. But if we have food and clothing with these we will be content.”
All these spiritual blessings come from God for Christians and Christians alone. Plus, I have a growing family of fellow Christians who encourage me and we get together three times a week. All this and Jesus gives the Spirit as a gift to those who believe in and serve in his kingdom (John 7:38-39). I feel better already,
“If God is for us, who can be against us?”-Romans 8:31 “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?”-Hebrews 13:6
Bring on the rakes!
